Volunteer Policy

ONE ROOT GLOBAL NGO is committed to strengthening and connecting the Afro-Caribbean diaspora. We believe volunteering is a fundamental pillar of an engaged and compassionate society. Learning from one another is central to how our organisation works.

Volunteers do not only play a supporting role; they also act as active role models within their communities.

We recognise the value and strength of volunteering and regard our volunteers as indispensable pillars of our work. Our volunteer policy is built around five clear steps to ensure strong collaboration and lasting engagement.

The five steps of our volunteer policy

1. Recruitment

We actively recruit volunteers who identify with our mission and want to contribute to the Afro-Caribbean community. We do this through introductory conversations, clear communication and by creating a warm and welcoming environment.

2. Guidance

New volunteers receive personal guidance and a thorough introduction to our work. We provide access to relevant information, training opportunities and a dedicated contact person within the organisation. This builds trust and collaboration.

3. Rewards

At ONE ROOT GLOBAL we offer no financial compensation, but we reward our volunteers in kind: through training, personal development, coaching, networking opportunities and participation in meaningful projects. We show our appreciation by recognising their commitment and supporting their growth.

4. Retention

We invest in lasting relationships with our volunteers by involving them actively, drawing on their talents and encouraging initiative. Regular feedback and expressions of appreciation are essential parts of our collaboration.

5. Exit conversation

When a volunteer decides to move on, we hold an exit conversation. We reflect on their experience, express our gratitude and explore future opportunities for involvement, for example as an ambassador or in another capacity.
